George Orwell warned us of many possible nightmares in his book Nineteen Eighty-Four (published 1949). One such concern was the government's ability to track every citizen, knowing where they were at all times, who they interacted with and for how long, all awhile claiming to do so for the betterment of society, posing as the "Big Brother".

The U.S. government has argued not having a backdoor into your encrypted phone is making criminals more powerful. Activists argue, having a backdoor into the encryption will allow criminals and other countries easier access into iPhones everywhere.
